Dereck Jackson is an educator, a counsellor and a parent. He studied education and psychology in South Africa and the United States of America.
He shares his extensive knowledge with the staff of schools, universities and teachers’ training colleges, where he addresses teachers and lecturers on practical aspects of education, and in particular of understanding, managing and educating young people.
Probably his greatest influence, however, has been among parents of school-going children. His easy-to-listen-to, down-to-earth approach, richly entertaining and hugely informative, has made him a much-sought-after speaker to parent groups for twenty years, invariably as the guest of schools that recognise and value the contribution he makes to successful parenting and effective education.
He is the former head of a gifted-child centre, and ran a guidance centre for children with educational problems. In addition to his work with children and parents, he lectures extensively in the corporate world, on motivational and management topics.
Dereck Jackson has spoken at conferences and schools in the USA, in the UK, in Europe and in many African countries, including Kenya and Nigeria. He has shared a platform with such renowned names as Spencer Johnson (Who moved my cheese?) and John Petersen, consultant to the Pentagon. In 1999 he addressed the International Conference of School Principals in Helsinki, to join a distinguished list of speakers who have spoken at this prestigious biennial educational symposium. In 2000 he spoke at the International Conference of the Young Presidents Association (YPO).
For twenty years and more, Dereck Jackson has been speaking to parents and educators about bringing up children. His entertaining, informative talks have successfully guided thousands of parents through the minefield of raising and educating their children.
